Connection Instructions
-
Connect the HAND-TRAK cable into the appropriate interface
on the PC and position the device so that it is located in
a comfortable position for the user. Orient the HAND-TRAK
so that the cable faces away from the user.
-
The HAND-TRAK should immediately begin to function. If it
does not, restart the PC.
Operating Instructions
-
The HAND-TRAK is operated by simply moving the palm of the
hand or a fingertip lightly across the top of the dome.
Note that the sensing area of the HAND-TRAK is the small
(8 mm / 0.3 in) circle at the very top of the dome. No
other area on the dome is sensitive to movement except
this small circle. The HAND-TRAK model H-PMSMP-A0001 is
configured for primary use with the palm of the hand, as
it places the most frequently used buttons where they are
within easy reach of the fingers. This configuration is
well-suited to applications in which vibration will be
common since the palm is more easily kept steady by a user
in such an environment. For applications where a user
would be able to hold the fingertip steady, the
H-PMSMP-A0002 configuration would be more appropriate.
-
For best operation, the user should make contact with
light pressure on the sensing area of the HAND-TRAK.
-
Gloves made of any material can be worn while operating
the HAND-TRAK as long as the area of the glove in contact
with the sensing area has texture.
-
The three large keys on the HAND-TRAK operate in the same
manner as the buttons on a standard mouse. The small,
round button located at the top center of the device (near
the cable exit) is pressed to enter the "Left Click and
Drag" mode. To exit the "Left Click and Drag" mode, simply
press the button again or press any of the other three keys.
-
Operation of the HAND-TRAK may be adjusted to the user's
preference using the "Mouse Properties" control panel
provided with the computer's operating system. (As a
starting point in Windows 2000®, try setting "Speed"
to mid-range and "Acceleration" to "None.")
-
The Panel Mount HAND-TRAK must be mounted through and
attached to a panel. The four mounting screws also
provide sealing force for the body of the unit. Since
the HAND-TRAK will operate at any angle, it may be mounted
in any position desired. For a drawing of the required
panel cutouts and mounting points, see:

Care Instructions
-
The small circle at the top of the HAND-TRAK dome is made
of synthetic sapphire. To operate properly, this sensing
area must be kept relatively clear. Occasionally wiping
the top of the HAND-TRAK dome with a soft, dry cloth will
keep it operating smoothly. This occasional wiping is the
only maintenance that your HAND-TRAK should need.
